So I read Why I shouldn't put my baby in a Babybjorn carrier
I was worried for Royce , I bought one and was given another Babybjorn carrier. However, before I cast my worries deeper. I received an official email from Mothercare which I thought they were fast to react to put mummies's worries at ease.
In the above mummy's blog, the post states that putting baby in a BabyBjorn carrier leads to hip dysplasia in babies.
Hip dysplasia is an abnormal formation of the hip socket that, in its more severe form, can eventually cause crippling lameness and painful arthritis of the joints. It is a genetic (polygenic) trait that is affected by environmental factors. It can be found in humans
I did some reading up, and understand that Hip dysplasia (also known as DDH )

I did some reading up, and understand that Hip dysplasia (also known as DDH )
- The condition is usually present from birth. And it happen more commonly in girls
- If there is a parent, brother or sister with DDH then this makes it five times more likely than normal for a child to have DDH
- About 6 in 10 cases of DDH occur in firstborn children. This may be because the uterus is tighter and less elastic than in future pregnancies so that the baby has less room to move. http://www.patient.co.uk/health/developmental-dysplasia-of-the-hip-leaflet

Why Should I put my baby in BabyBjorn Carrier
International of Hip Dysplasia Institute states that
- The hip and joint is a ball and socket joint.During the first few months of life the ball is more likely to be loose within the socket because babies are naturally flexible and because the edges of the socket are made of soft cartilage like the cartilage in the ear. If the hips are forced into a stretched-out position too early, the ball is at risk of permanently deforming the edges of the cup shaped socket (hip dysplasia) or gradually slipping out of the socket altogether (hip dislocation). The risk of hip dysplasia or dislocation is greatest in the first few months of life. By six months of age, most babies have nearly doubled in size, the hips are more developed and the ligaments are stronger, so are less susceptible to developing hip dysplasia
- 'Any device that restrains a baby’s legs in an unhealthy position should be considered a potential risk for abnormal hip development. It is also important to assess the size of the baby and match the device and carrier to the size of the child so that the hips can be in a healthy position during transport. '

Why Should I put my baby in BabyBjorn Carrier
- Babybjorn carriers have came a long way since 1973s, and they have been continuing to develop carries and ensure the safety .
- Since 1970s, have any moms come forth and confirmed that it was the carrier that lead hip dysplasia?
- Even articles that parents had shared that their child had hip dysplasia , most mentioned they had discovered hip dysplasia after birth , during checks up.
- Babybjorn Carriers has the sleekest design in my opinion, the design allows the Papa Koh to carry the carrier without feeling feminine . :)
- Buckles are really easy to click and can be used with one hand, I was able to carry baby without any help.
- when I carry Baby Royce in the carrier, and most of the times, he fell asleep happily.
- The same mum whom did not want to put her baby in a Babybjorn carrier, had a chance to review BabyBjorn Carrier one, and she did kinda recommend the carrier after that. BabyBjorn’s ‘Baby Carrier One’ Review. Is It Just Another Crotch Dangler?
