Mt Elizabeth Novena Hospital Tour by Ade Oei

12:30 PM 0 Comments
Papa Koh did his research and book for Hospital Tour at Mt Elizabeth Novena.
I have of heard its impressive facilities and those whom went for the tour were wowed by it.

I had to check it out myself. We were greeted by the hospital staff near the concierge , who immediately asked if we needed any help.

The concierge staff 's services makes me feel that we were checking in a hotel.

While waiting for the tour to start , we sat in the posh lobby, read through the prices of the room.

I was abit horrified that the prices went up and it went up like $500 from last year. And they have only opened up the maternity department in March last year. I don't think whatever reason justifies the great jump!
Our lovely lady whom lead the tour
Our tour guide was friendly and professional. She brought us to the delivery room which it comes with the attached toilet. The last time I remember having to share and I had to wait for my turn. The maximum number of mummies whom will deliver in one day is 6 . This gives mummies a sense of relief that we will not be subjected to a short handling of staff.
Delivery ward
It was the room next which she brought us over.  the great thing about Mt Elizabeth Novena that the hospital has only single rooms. It gave me a sense of another relief that the hospital will not ran out of a single room that day. As I remembered my friend had to rest in a two bedded. I think it is preference or situation when come to choosing. However, I insist that Papa Koh accompanies me for the 3 days. Mama Koh is not comfortable of being alone.
Lacatation consultant will be introduced to the mummies and one time massage will be thrown in as well. Sorry daddies ! The massage is cater for mummies only.

The room is defintely smaller than the previous Super Delux room I stayed.

Comfortable sofa for Papa Koh
I told Papa Koh the sofa looks more comfy this time. The room looks spacious enough to accommodate all Papa and Mama Koh's guests.
Crabtree and Evelyn
Yes, like a high end hotel, the toiletries are from Crabtree And Evelyn!

The crowd gathered to see the nursery . Excitedly when I took a peek into the nursery , I was told that the only baby was discharged that morning. >.<

Pro-breastfeeding mummies will be glad to hear that the hospital will provide breast pump (electrical) . Previously I had to add on milk powder as Baby Royce did not have enough food. Milk powder is available in the various brand . It comes in a tin form and it is available at $1.

Lovely decorations that include into the collaterals that include all the info that Papa and Mama need
The junior suite impressed me with space,  big toilet and outdoor rest area. Accommodating a huge lot of guests. Daddies can watch TV without disturbing Mummies as the the TV is in another room. For the premium price you pay, it include the accompanied stay.

The price for accompanied stay in the single room is $97 inclusive of GST.

The price for single room as follows :

And the prices for the junior suite :

Necessary documents to bring :

With the end of tour , with the details and facilities that wowed us,we have made up our minds to send the pre-admission form to Dr Caludine Tan :)

Just hope the services will be as good as its facilities.

Dr Claudine Tan charges and clinic's routine by Ade Oei

1:47 AM 3 Comments
I think this is one of the last few visit to Dr Claudine Tan's clinic. From stepping into the clinic. Never fail to see the familiar faces at the front desk greet me by name.

The normal routine get your blood pressure checked and weight checked. At 35 weeks , I weighed 57.2kg ..... And I always try to think that is baby has gained all that weight. >.<

Do a glucose test, by peeing on on strip of paper. The last time I had bread with ovalmaltine (Nutella like). Instantly, Dr Claudine knew I had too much sugar for breakfast. This time I drank 3/4 of my coffee and await the results. Phew ! It was normal.

For hospital , Dr Claudine Tan charges as follows:
consultation fees : $200 region
Surgical Fees : about $3000
With Vac/Forceps : $3000 region
Emergency C sect : $3000 to $4000
Recommended PD - $600 to $900
anesthetist : $600 - $800

I wanted to find the anesthetist whom helped me with Royce .With a help with Papa and mama Koh's description. Dr Claudine Tan was able roughly know who is the previous anesthetist. Just hope he will be found and has time for me :)

Had to do a swap for streptococcus B ,
Group B strep (GBS) is a kind of bacteria that many people harbor in their intestinal tracts. The bacteria may also inhabit (or "colonize") your vagina as well, and be passed on to your baby during labor and birth.
Approximately 10 to 30 percent of pregnant women carry GBS in the vagina or rectum or surrounding area. While GBS is generally harmless in healthy adults, it may cause stillbirth and serious infections in babies.

One gentle swap of the cotton bud cost me $45.

Mama and Papa Koh did not start saving as early this time,
With the charges and the previous experience, we calculated the hospitals bills. Hopefully, we have enough , (with claimable from Medisave) before i deliver.

25 + 5 Weeks and traveling to BangKok

12:39 AM 0 Comments
My second day in Bangkok and I am more recharged to do some blogging now. I have heard mummies concern about traveling when they are pregnant. So this is my life and now pregnant at 25 weeks and travelling.

I heard that airplane companies give priority to pregnant women. I took SQ flight this time round. However, unsure of what is the priority. I have decided to pass them my letter written by my gynae.

My luggages had business class priority tag and I didn't really had to wait long. Once I reached luggage claim , my luggage were ready to be picked up. This was good, I was getting very tired.

Priority Luggage Claim
I do realized that Bangkok is not friendly for heavily pregnant women, strollers and wheelchair.
The pavements are very uneven. In the event, we had to cross the bridge , there was no escalator or lift. There were no pedestrian crossing in sight nearby, poor Papa Koh had to lift the two luggage up the long flight of steps

I wouldn't recommend Bangkok for heavily pregnant ladies. Bangkok has been flourished over the years and thank goodness for that ,it make hotels closer to the malls for middle incomers affordable.

Checking in at The Berkeley Hotel , which was walking distance from Platinum Mall. This was where I got my loot for Royce two years ago. Before I headed out , I took a shot at my baby bump. I
want to send a reminder to mummies to be more diligent in putting the stretch mark cream. I was ignorant during my pregnancy of Royce. I did not see any stretch mark until I gave birth. My 'battle scars' scarred me still 21 months later.

Looking sharp from this angle
if you can see my battle scar on my tummy
I brought my dermatix stretch cream. One of the smallest stretch cream and non -sticky cream.

This is one the stretch mark cream I used and  it works
At Central World , we didn't get to find cheap deals for babies .However, You can find kids' store such as Mothercare or H & M kids . it did not seem cheaper than Singapore. However, Central World is one place you can bring your running tods and let them ride the kid's train

My mission to purchase for Adele, only kick off on the third day.  Maybe I have bought some necessity for Royce, I felt we have lesser to buy this time. I had to squeeze into my brand new Melissa shoes , and i felt my feet expanded after that.

it was uncomfortable for me at this point . Wear comfortable shoes ,
round shoes will be more comfy,

The mummies was exchanging baby bumps phots on the forum and I was excited to show off mine too. :)

Mama and Papa Koh bought :
  1. 3 sets of  romper with cardigan and pant at 250baht per set.
  2. Luavle Friends set of rompers at 300 baht
  3. headband and a socks(SGD $12).
  4. 4 Pair of slippers at 200 baht
  5. Royce's pants at 280baht
It was a good buy from Platinum Mall !!!
Happy Purchases

Maybe my stomach is bigger this time round. I had a lot of attention from women in Bangkok. They seemed fascinated with my tummy, or it could be the protruding belly button. They keep asking me how many months I am. I am intrigued by their fascination. Travelling in Bangkok, I felt tired all the time, I wore the new Melissa shoes that I bought the day before. I realised my feet expanded and it was a tight squeeze after wearing the shoes . I had to rest and stop at a café at Platinum , didn't had the energy I had before I was pregnant. Thank God for an understanding husband .
It was a satisfaction to be able to get so many stuff that you can't get in Singapore at the same price.

Trying to get good buys from Bangkok. I always wanted to buy Melissa shoes for Adele, from Royce's growth of his feet. I felt that Adele will outgrown them very fast. However I did manage to find Mel by Melissa with the same bubblegum smell at good price.

After the happy buys and purchases, we jet back to Singapore . Manage to get Royce a trolley bag . And Papa conveniently used as hand carry luggage. For Pregnant Mummies , please note that Changi Airport has priority queue for Taxis. I got a cab under 2 mins... :)

Look's who jetting back happily with his new found School bag :)

[Sponsored Review ] Choo Mee Sip' n by Ade Oei

12:59 AM 0 Comments
I had a sample Gerber Grabber or a fruit juice pouch and the rest is history. Royce got hooked on it .
I haven't really got a chance to taste it, but Royce recognised the pouch , he will rushed to grab it.Most of the times , I should say all the time, in his excitement , he pressed the pouch and the squeezed fruit juice will all over him. We had to clean up all the time.

I was browsing upon the reviews of the best fruit pouch ,when I chanced upon Choo Mee Sip'n .choo mee
It seems like a solution to Mama and Papa Koh's problem. When it arrived in my letterbox,
I wanted to try on immediately.
Truth to be told, I was quite fascinated how the thing worked. Wanted to find an opportunity to show Mums and Dads how the pouch can really create a mess . Especially when the toddlers are excited and they tend to press the pouch , resulting in the fruit juice to be squeezed out and splashed over the kid's clothes or the floor.

As you can see from the picture below, how Royce grabbed the pouch excitedly.
Royce always grabs eagerly when he sees the pouch
The instructions are very simple for mums and dads whom doesn't like to read instructions much like me. You can simply read the instructions on the back. For me, I took it out and snapped onto the pouch and passed it to Royce and he gave an eager look that I couldn't resist passing it to him quick.

Here is how it looks , a simple tool and on the right is the instructions
As soon as he gotten hold of the pouch, I was skeptical for a spilt second, because I had a fear he will messed my already messy house.

The advantage of it was it prevented spills!! It has critical flow control valve keeps food in the pouch! (You can tell how excited I am because it solved my very problem.
By allowing him to hold the pouch himself , I do not need to hold it for him . Most of the time , I had to hold him for him because I was afraid he will pressed the juice out.
And for the first time, the entire content of the fruit pouch was emptied , he was able to drink it all.

Choo Mee Sip'n allows him to be more independent as he can hold it himself
That's Royce trying to cap it back
Really great to have found ChooMee Sip'n , don't have to worry about spilling no more. ChooMee Sip'n can be found http://biglittleme.com/  , selling at $15.90 for one pack.

Till the next time, signing off Mama and Papa Koh

Mothercare Habourfront Centre Store Grand Opening by Ade Oei

6:09 AM 0 Comments
I was honored to be invited by Mothercare to their Grand opening of Harbourfront Centre on the 6th Sept 2014
As I was walking in , as the host was mentioning all the best Award items in the different categories. I will ramble some of the products that I remember
  • BabyBjorn's new Travel Crib Light was mentioned for cots
       - what I loved about BabyBjorn's products , that they have thought about daily life of a parent
and difficulty they faced. The travel light crib is portable and travel light. Parents whom need to
travel both Mother's and MIL's home like Mama and Papa Koh, could have bought this in the first place , instead of  buying two cots.
  • Pigeon as the best baby wipes, before I gave birth to Royce , I have only heard Pigeon brand for their wipes. And I will buy them, especially when they are on discount. Good to know that I have used the best! The host mentioned that it could be used for make-up remover, and I did a google on that, and surprisingly there are people who used them as make-up remover. So mummies . now you know what to use if you ran of make-up remover . :)
Then after, there were introduction of strollers, Bungaboo Bee was introduced first. I was excited to know more about the strollers, as I was looking for a new stroller, it feels like I was choosing a next ferrari for Baby Royce or for the 'new one'.

Picture of  Bungaboo Bee
Appropriate for the urban lifestyle , these days it better to look out for lightweight strollers
Especially for a city state like Singapore , it is not accessible to roll up the street pavements , to be able carry up and down will be good.
And what's more it comes with a bassinet.

The second stroller blows me away, also another lightweight stroller weighing 3.3kg, the size of a newborn. Easy to fold, and it had straps that allows you to fold and carry over your shoulder.
Why I am impressed is that as a first time mom with Royce, without PaPa Koh, I may have some difficulties pushing Royce up and down , folding the stroller into the car.
This will be a good stroller for mums whom need to run errand alone, into the bus , folding into the car.
I like the way they carried out the 'light -weight' of the stroller.
Flying into clouds :)
Mothercare Flagship store has expanded into a 10,000 sq meters shopping ground for Moms and Dads.
In this newly reopened store, I found some baby food  , which I think it makes a great one stop shopping .
Baby Food found here

And I always found myself drawn to buying stuff from Mothercare, and that is how Mama and Papa Koh end our day leaving with newly purchases for No 2 from Mothercare.
With that ,  See you you Mums and Dads again! :)

Pregnant with no 2 - A trip to Dr Claudine Tan

10:50 PM 6 Comments
Yeah Double Stripes

The bloated tummy , the occasional nausea , the missed period. We confronted the reality with a stick at the GP and yes! it was double stripes!

Papa Koh booked ,  Dr Claudine Tan , She was my gynae for Royce. For those who have not heard the news , Dr Claudine Tan is with Thomas women's clinic , located at Blk 254, Seragoon Central Drive #01-219 .

A familiar face greeted us at the doorway, I was more than happy, as it put us at ease. With no 2 , there wasn't constant fear of the next step. And I know I am in safe hands , I am super relaxed.

I am at 8 weeks , Papa Koh and I were cite to see the heart beat. The terrible news we can't announce to the whole world yet. Being Chinese , the tradition was not to mention till the fourth month. The basis is if you announced it before the fourth month or the safety period , there is a higher risk of miscarriage.

Can't make out which is the head or feet, but excited to see the heart beat

Dr Claudine Tan informed me that there is fetal DNA testing is a test that indicates if a woman is at increased risk of having a fetus with Down syndrome.
With this test, a sample of the woman's blood is taken after 10 weeks of pregnancy. The test measures the relative amount of free fetal DNA in the mother's blood. The test determines the chance that the fetus has Down syndrome. It should be ok to do such test, but it cost *drum rolls * $1000.

The other option is to do OSCAR or (1) ‘One-stop Clinic for Assessment of Risk for Fetal Anomalies’, is a test carried out in the first trimester to screen for the risk of fetal anomalies, particularly for Down’s Syndrome. I forgot what is the cost, but I will update in the next blog post.

I totally forgot that I had taken 'an tai yao' during my first trimester when I had Royce. Papa Koh requested for Dr Claudine Tan to pass me Utrogestan otherwise known as Progesterone.

(2)Progesterone is a naturally occurring female sex hormone which is essential for the function of the female reproductive system. It is produced in the ovaries during the second half of the menstrual cycle, and also by the placenta during pregnancy. The amount of progesterone a woman produces declines during the menopause.
You will have been prescribed progesterone to supplement your naturally produced progesterone

Till the next time . :)

Why I should put my baby in a Baby bjorn Carrier - by Adelynn Oei

8:50 AM 0 Comments
So I read Why I shouldn't put my baby in a Babybjorn carrier
I was worried for Royce , I bought one and was given another Babybjorn carrier. However, before I cast my worries deeper. I received an official email from Mothercare which I thought they were fast to react to put mummies's worries at ease.
Official email from Mothercare
In the above mummy's blog, the post states that putting baby in a BabyBjorn carrier leads to hip dysplasia in babies.

Hip dysplasia is an abnormal formation of the hip socket that, in its more severe form, can eventually cause crippling lameness and painful arthritis of the joints. It is a genetic (polygenic) trait that is affected by environmental factors. It can be found in humans

I did some reading up, and understand that Hip dysplasia (also known as DDH )
  1. The condition is usually present from birth. And it happen more commonly in girls
  2. If there is a parent, brother or sister with DDH  then this makes it five times more likely than normal for a child to have DDH
  3. About 6 in 10 cases of DDH occur in firstborn children. This may be because the uterus is tighter and less elastic than in future pregnancies so that the baby has less room to move. http://www.patient.co.uk/health/developmental-dysplasia-of-the-hip-leaflet

    Prevention
International of Hip Dysplasia Institute states that
    1. The hip and joint is a ball and socket joint.During the first few months of life the ball is more likely to be loose within the socket because babies are naturally flexible and because the edges of the socket are made of soft cartilage like the cartilage in the ear. If the hips are forced into a stretched-out position too early, the ball is at risk of permanently deforming the edges of the cup shaped socket (hip dysplasia) or gradually slipping out of the socket altogether (hip dislocation). The risk of hip dysplasia or dislocation is greatest in the first few months of life. By six months of age, most babies have nearly doubled in size, the hips are more developed and the ligaments are stronger, so are less susceptible to developing hip dysplasia
    2. 'Any device that restrains a baby’s legs in an unhealthy position should be considered a potential risk for abnormal hip development. It is also important to assess the size of the baby and match the device and carrier to the size of the child so that the hips can be in a healthy position during transport. '
On how babies have to be positioned
After all the reading, most of the websites advised how to carry the babies in the right way , However none of the websites had references of case studies due to the use of prolonged wearing of any sort baby carrier lead to the development of hip dysplasia.

Why Should I put my baby in BabyBjorn Carrier
      1. Babybjorn carriers have came a long way since 1973s, and they have been continuing to develop carries and ensure the safety .
      2. Since 1970s, have any moms come forth and confirmed that it was the carrier that lead hip dysplasia?
      3. Even articles that parents had shared that their child had hip dysplasia , most mentioned they had discovered hip dysplasia after birth , during checks up.
      4. Babybjorn Carriers has the sleekest design in my opinion, the design allows the Papa Koh to carry the carrier without feeling feminine .  :)
      5. Buckles are really easy to click and can be used with one hand, I was able to carry baby without any help.
      6. when I carry Baby Royce in the carrier, and most of the times, he fell asleep happily.
      7. The same mum whom did not want to put her baby in a Babybjorn carrier, had a chance to review BabyBjorn Carrier one, and she did kinda recommend the carrier after that.  BabyBjorn’s ‘Baby Carrier One’ Review. Is It Just Another Crotch Dangler?
       Conclusion
I am one of the mums that will recommend and will stick to Babybjorn Carriers anytime. :)
Before you go, do read a dad's blog on his views on Babybjorn Carriers

[Sponsored Review] Bepanthen ointment for diaper rash Review by Adelynn Oei

      4:06 AM 0 Comments
*Crapz*  I don't think I have given the best photo for the magazine. Ade Whines.

I was asked to give a testimonial and I think it came in handy during the period of time. I was recommended and given some samples to try by colleague when she heard about my baby's diaper rash problem.

Baby Royce had diaper rash, what made worse, he had diarrhea , cleaning up his butt becomes a constant pain for him. His whole butt was very red and skin was peeling a little.  He wailed very loudly, being first time parents,we were at a lost of what to do.

When we used Bepathen ointment , it was not as sticky compared to one of the diaper cream.  A small amount of the ointment of the cream was needed. and it protected his backside from the wetness. Which was one of the reason that irritated his skin during his diaper rash.  We noticed that we reduced the amount of diaper change. Thankfully, his diarrhea also stopped and the redness and sores subsided after three days.

Ever since, I have recommending my friends Bepanthan ointment.

Btw, that's me on the extreme right. :)

      9:22 AM 0 Comments
While pages of magazines will be torn and turned yellow, I hope to keep the memories of featured times of anything to do my love, Royce or Papa Koh in this blog.
Been posting Royce's photo in any contest possible. Just to get him some exposure when he is a baby. :)
His smiles and friendliness has got random aunties and uncles talking and cooing at him. I am boasting like any mom will do..

I  thank God for his gift to us.
Here is tiny picture of him on this month Mother & Baby Nov 2013 magazine,on the extreme left corner.

Development milestones - Baby Royce @ 5 months | Flipping by Adelynn Oei

      7:59 AM 0 Comments

Royce learned to flip at 5 months. It was the moment I was waiting for. And I always thought Ronald and I are the most relaxed parents around. We thought we wouldn't rushed things, we will leave things to progress by itself.

But worry is always a parent's duty. I couldn't help but worry, what if he couldn't progress and what we were supposed to do. So with such thoughts,we couldn't help but assist him with his flips and doing tummy time. And it paid off,  we were cite when he could do his flips. Credits to  my mother-in-law too.

When babies have their neck strengthen, they are able to start flipping, some as early as 4months .
Glad I got it down on video. Precious moments . :)

Baby Royce's hair been shaved at 4 months

      9:15 AM 0 Comments

If you asked me why a one month old baby's hair ,or at fourth months need to be shaved. I have no idea.
Basically, accordingly to Chinese's beliefs,  shedding of the birth hair (sometimes referred to as "hair from the womb")

However, of course the modernized Singaporeans will have their kids's hair shaved, because  this helps to have their hair growth more evenly and hopefully more.

A sneak shot of Royce having his hair cut

Not knowing what is he getting into.

Mr Hairdresser, what are you doing?

[Media Launch] BABYBJÖRN Carrier One @ MotherCare HarbourFront

      6:13 AM 0 Comments

With the carrier tested and review, part of being an ambassador was to showcase the carrier during the media launch. Below is the video summary of the media launch.

While the Mamas and Papas got ready to do the walk way. We decided that Papa Koh will do the modelled and do the showcase.

Being able to participate in such media launch was exciting, and I believed that all the Mamas and Papas were beaming while parading their little ones away.

Singapore ambassadors for BABYBJÖRN Carrier One

From the looks of the different ages of the babies, you can pretty tell for yourself that carrier is versatile for carrying all babies to toddler, weighing up to 20kg! That's the size about a 3- 4years old kid.

Executive Director of Mothercare Singapore, Pang Shu Ming spoke fondly of the founder of BabyBjorn Björn Jakobson and his wife , Lillemor Jakobson. I, myself remembered the couple came to Singapore to attend BabyBjorn 50th anniversary back in 2011. They spoke passionately about the Babybjorn . It is only now that I have became a Mom, that I have grown to appreciate their passion  which had translated to something great and useful for parents.

Brand Associate , Johnathon Phua doing a demo on how to use the carrier
I was rather impressed with Johnathon Phua , Mothercare's brand associate. He was demonstrating the carrier very smoothly and I like the way he showed how the carrier could be swing from the front to the back. Which I have seen others doing demos on youtube of the other carriers in clumsy and awkard manner.

      Physiotherapist , Aparnah Shah
Papa Koh and I always thought it would be a better time when Baby Royce was about 4mths to use a carrier and when his neck was more stable. It was a good timing when we had the carrier, as I was doing a review and I did an research to make sure I had my facts right. Babybjorn carriers keep coming up on the internet and mummys had much more good than bad reviews on this brand of baby carriers. I keep searching on the product knowledge of the carrier ,that I neglected the fact that Baby Royce had to test out the carrier himself. As I remembered one of the speaker Aparnah Shah , whom is a physiotherapist , told us baby has to also test out the carrier. The baby must be as comfortable as the wearer themselves.

I kinda think I love the thoughtfulness of the company that they have forgotten not our fellow parents whom like to travel with their little one in weather wet or chilling countries. They are selling BabyBjorn carrier cover to shield the little ones from such weather.
Our Bumble bee looking at the camera
With a long day of excitement, the day was ended light refreshments and we ended ours with a shopping bag of full of our little one 's clothes!!
      The Kohs saying bye!
